Memories of a teacher

Spiral, Horizontal Line Spinning

 Michelle Meyer, Edison Community College

I am currently attending edison communtity college and majoring in education. From here I plan to attend Florida Gulfcoast university and narrow my major into education of social sciences secondary education. To accomplish this goal I am taking the pre-requisites needed to further my education at FGCU and do the mandatory observation hours needed for my current courses. I attended Cypress Lake high school from freshman to sophmore year, and unfourtunatly had to switch schooling due to a move to north fort myers. There I attended Lehigh Senior high, but due to circumstances, decided to get my General Education Degree instead. After A year break I deicded to further my education and became very intrested in my education once again.

I have had many leadership roles in groups such as girl scouts, where I arranged some meetings, and inspired the younger girls through speech and activities. I also had made articles in the monthly girl scout newspaper as well. Another group I had a leadership role in was my youth group at Saint Catherine Drexel catholic church. Since I was there at the start of the group I helped arrange activities, gave inspiring speeches, and helped with fundraisers such as newspaper selling, and car washes.

My current hobbies are reading, going to the gym, hiking on nature trails, and researching history to expand my current knowlege of subject.

I currently dont have any teaching experience but I am eager to learn. I believe that I have many of the qualities that it takes to make a teacher. Such as:
  • dedication and a passion for both the material and helping students learn the material
  • Organization in daily plans and short and long term goals
  • Self motivation to accomplish what is needed to be done, and go the extra mile for tasks to be better than average
  • Love of kids and thier growth in life and special intrest in learning to teach a diverse grop of students with different learning needs
  • Ability to be a leader and Develop more than one solution to a problem.

One characteristic about myself that I think is the most vital in the teaching field is the want to learn. This would help in changing learning plans to adapt to the students needs, and learning how to be a more effective teacher throughout my career. I especially think that the teacher's knowledge of subject matter would be important in being able to answer all questions like many teachers have failed to do in the past.

When I was in middle school, my mother encouraged teaching others what you know by taking our family to tutor students that knew english, but couldnt get help in areas with thier parents because they could only speak spanish. Throughout the shcool year I continued to tutor and was surprised at how much a few hours of my time each week had meant to those children.
